Our Words, Our Actions, Our Value to God

I spent some time alone this week which gave me some time to think as well as conduct some of my own self-evaluation. Many questions came to mind as I thought about things I had recently said, done and contemplated.

One thing was my words. Were the words I spoke every day of value to God? Did I say things that encouraged others or did I simply talk about my own problems drowning in self-pity. If I wasn’t providing encouragement of some sort, I wasn’t serving my Lord.

How about the things I did or didn’t accomplish? Did I serve God at all this week or was I just another person in this world with no meaning to anyone but myself? Again, if the latter, I wasn’t doing the simple things my God has asked me to do.

Last, but certainly not least, if I wasn’t serving God and my Lord and Savior, what value was I to them? How could I feel of any significance to anyone, save myself, if I wasn’t doing the things they have asked of me?

Our Words

Sometimes, we often don’t think about what we say or how what we say may have an impact on another brother or sister. We think too quickly and don’t anticipate how others may react to what we have on our mind. We may not even realize what we’re saying sometimes as we’re only thinking of how we are feeling at the moment, but we haven’t truly examined our audience and how they might be feeling. God speaks to us about our words and how they should be His…

Deuteronomy 11:18 – Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.

Example: The Boy with a Bag of Nails

Example: The Group of Frogs

Our Actions

There are a lot of times we just don’t realize how other people may think of us. Some might admire us, look up to us for our belief in God and our diligence to keep His word. We get caught up in the fun and revelry of the times and forget to act the Good Shepherds He intended us to be. Don’t get me wrong, there is no reason at all not to have a good time and fun with family and friends. It’s just important to remember our beliefs and try to adhere to the principles we’re trying so hard to follow.

1 John 3:18 “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.”

Example: A Visit from Jesus

Matthew 25:40 – “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

Our Value to God

As I mentioned, if we’re not living up to God’s expectations, how much value can we be to Him? What purpose do we serve if we give in to sin and temptation and ignore the simple commandments that were left to us by Moses? How can God care for us at all if we’re simply not following the guidelines… what worth can we be… how much value can He put on us if we are such terrible followers of His word?

Matthew 10:29-31 – “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.”

Example: The Twenty Dollar Bill

In Summary

Our words are important. We need to remember to think hard before we speak. How will what we have to say be taken by other people? Are our words hurtful, without true meaning and do they really NEED to be said at all?

The same goes with our actions. We often do things in haste, without thinking, and not realizing the consequences of what we are doing. Remember, it is not a bad thing to have a good time and enjoy ourselves, but it IS important we not damage the vision people have of us being children of God.

Revel in this, as told to us by Moses in…

Deuteronomy 7:6–8 – “The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers.”

We are children of God, the chosen few; Brother and Sisters to Christ… and we ARE of great value to Him!

Go with God; Be good to one another; Always stay humble; Always be kind… God Bless!
